This photograph shows the distinguished guests, administrators and some of the IIT Madras faculty seated at the stage near the podium during the Institute’s 20th convocation. It was the first convocation to be held at the Student Activities Centre (SAC) which was inaugurated on this day.

Seen in the photograph are, in the front row, from left, Dr. Raja Ramanna (Chairman, Board of Governors of IIT Bombay), Mr. A. Sivasailam (Chairman, Board of Governors of IIT Madras), Mr. Giani Zail Singh (President of India and chief guest), Dr. H. V. Hande (Minister of Health) and Prof. P. V. Indiresan (Director of IIT Madras).
