The academic procession in progress at the 13th convocation, 1976

Convocations , Institute Events

In the photograph, Mr. C. V. Sethunathan (Registrar) can be seen leading the academic procession consisting of faculty members and administrators of the Institute and the chief guest. Prof. M. V. Krishnamurthy (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Prof. K. Balaraman (Department of Aerospace Engineering) and Prof. C. V. Seshadri (Department of Electrical Engineering) can be seen among other faculty members who are a part of the procession. A band that plays the procession tune is also seen in the background.

The distinguished guests get ready to enter the hall as the Academic Procession once the photograph is taken. The academic procession is a formation of two rows led by the Registrar. The procession tune played was ‘Auld Lang Syne’. The Director and the chief guest are the last two to enter the convocation hall (OAT). As the chief guest enters the hall, the first six bars of the National Anthem are played. These bars were played by the IAF band during the first convocation and by the police band at the convocations that came later.
