Seen in the first row from left are, Mr. Willi Hasenbein (Expert, Machine Tool), three unidentified persons, Mr. R. Natarajan (First Registrar of the Institute), Mr. Y. S. Ramaswamy (Superintending Engineer), Mr. C. V. Sethunathan (Second Registrar of the Institute), a gentleman yet to be identified and Prof. S. Sampath (Professor of Electrical Engineering).

During the same month (April, 1965) the second convocation was held (3 April 1965) and a farewell ceremony was conducted (1 April 1965) for Mr. R Natarajan (Registrar). The first Registrar (Mr. R. Natarajan, I.A.S.) had to return to work in the Government as an Administrative officer and thus, Mr. C.V. Sethunathan, had succeeded him as the second Registrar of the Institute from 5 April 1965 onwards (Annual Report 1964-65). Both of them are seen to be present in this photograph during the Staff Club inauguration function, seated in the front row.

C. Gourishankar (1926-2002). After working for several years with the Geological Survey of India and being a geologist by qualification, Gourishankar had later started his career as a photographer. Gourishankar was driven to achieve flawlessness and perfection in everything that he did. Thus his photographs had an impeccable quality that characterised them. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
