At the Bose-Einstein Guest House, 1963

This photograph was taken during the Fourth Institute Day of IIT Madras. The chief guests were possibly welcomed at the Bose-Einstein Guest House before being taken to the main event which was held at the Open Air Theatre (OAT). 

From left, Mrs. Kraus, Dr. A. L. Mudaliar (Chairman, Board of Governors, behind the lady with the bag), Mr. R. Natarajan (Registrar, behind Dr. Mudaliar), Mr. Gerhard Fischer (Consul General, Federal Republic of Germany, in front of pillar), Prof. R. A. Kraus (coordinator of the Indo-German Aid Program, second from right), Mr. Bishnuram Medhi (Governor of Madras and chief guest, wearing white cap), and Prof. B. Sengupto (Director, extreme right). The lady with the bag has not been identified yet.

C. Gourishankar (1936-2002). A geologist by qualification, Gourishankar started his career as a photographer after working for many years with the Geological Survey of India. In everything that he did, Gourishankar strove to achieve flawlessness and impeccable quality. Thus his photography too was characterised by this drive for perfection. Every photograph that Gourishankar took was meticulously planned and shot and printed with diligence and patience. Gourishankar carried out most of the official photography at IIT Madras in the 1960s.
