At the Open Air Theatre, 1974

Visiting VIPs , Administrators , Institute Events

This photograph was taken during the event held to formally initiate the final phase of construction of the swimming pool. In addition to this, a souvenir related to the swimming pool was released for the benefit of the faculty and students. The event was attended by Mr. K. K. Shah (Governor of Tamil Nadu). The event was held at approximately 7:10 p.m. and possibly lasted around half an hour, according to the event itinerary.

It is likely that the gentleman addressing the audience released the souvenir. Initially, the plan was to have Mrs. Madhuben Shah, wife of the Governor, release the souvenir. However, it is evident through photographs that she was not able to make it to the event.

Seen in the photograph, from left, a student who is yet to be identified, Prof. R. K. Gupta (Dean of Student Affairs), Prof. K. A. V. Pandalai (Director of IIT Madras), Mr. K. K. Shah (Governor of Tamil Nadu) and Prof. S. Sampath (Deputy Director). The other persons in the photograph are yet to be identified.
