This photograph was taken at Jalakanteshwara Temple in the IIT Madras campus during the visit of Sringeri Sharada Peethadhipati Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Swamiji. The main deities worshipped at this temple are Lord Shiva (Jalakanteshwara) and Devi Katyayani. It appears that a pooja is being conducted to the deity as devotees loon on. Seen in the photograph, Mr. Y. S. Ramaswamy (Superintending Engineer, extreme left), Mrs. Ramaswamy (to Mr. Ramaswamy’s left hand side) and Prof. R. Krishnamurthi (Head of Humanities Department, in front of Mr. Ramaswamy).

His visit was possibly a part of his all-India tour which he embarked on in June 1964 from the Sringeri Matha, Karnataka. When he visited IIT Madras, the Jalakanteshwara Temple had been recently constructed and a kumbhabhishekam had been conducted a few months…
