In this photograph, a Ph.D. student bows down before the distinguished guests on stage before receiving the degree. The 26th Convocation took place in the Student Activities Centre (SAC) and 244 B.Tech., 328 M.Tech., 51 M.Sc., 54 M.S., and 81 Ph.D. degrees were awarded. This increased the total number of degrees awarded to students by IIT Madras to 13887, according to the Annual Report of 1989-90. Apart from the awarding of degrees, several merit and endowment prizes were also awarded to students.…

This photograph was taken during the 26th Convocation ceremony held in 1989. In this photograph, Mr. A. L. Mudaliar is giving his speech as the Chairman of the Board of Governors. Mr. A. L. Mudaliar was also the son of Dr. A. L. Mudaliar (the first Chairman) and the younger brother of Dr. A. Ramachandran, the second Director of the institute.
