The Chief Guest of the 36th Convocation was Jamshed J. Irani (Tata Steel). At the August 1999 convocation, a total of 949 degrees were awarded: 106 Ph.D., 76 M.S., 352 M.Tech, 82 M.Sc. and 333 B.Tech. These degrees covered a wide range of disciplines and specializations offered by the 9 Engineering Departments, 3 Science Departments and the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences. The graduates included 107 ladies.
