The event in the photograph, which appears to be a dance performance, can be seen taking place at the Open Air Theatre during the cultural festival. There were numerous professional shows that were organised and performed by professionals during Mardi Gras each year.

By 1987, Mardi Gras started featuring classical dance as a competitive event. In the same year, Mardi Gras additionally added dimensions to the cultural festival which included a two day festival of Folk Arts (such as Terrukoothu, Yakshagana and Kavadi).

The posters on top of the stage indicate that the ‘Ananda Shankar Experience’ was sponsored by Hemdevs Real Estate and Rentals, during Mardi Gras (1983).

N S Vinodh. After completing an early education in Bangalore, N. S. Vinodh obtained his B. Tech. in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras in 1986. Being the secretary of the Photography Club at IIT Madras during his third year, he was an avid photography enthusiast. He then went on to complete his MBA from IIM, Lucknow, and later spent his career holding senior positions in the field of Corporate Real Estate with leading multinational financial services companies. He continued to pursue his hobby of photography, integrating it with his love of travel and wildlife.
