A music performance given by Pandit Ravishankar, Shri Ananda Shankar and Zakir Hussain during Mardi Gras (1983)

Pandit Ravishankar, who can be seen in the photograph performing alongside other well-known musicians during Mardi Gras, was a renowned Indian Musician, Sitar player, composer and the founder of National Orchestra of India. He studied the sitar under the noted musician Ustad Allauddin Khan. After serving as music director of All-India Radio till 1956, he began a series of European and American tours. Pandit Ravi Shankar subsequently became the world’s best-known performer of Hindustani classical music, who then performed with India’s most-distinguished percussionists and created several successful recordings. 


Shri Ananda Shankar, nephew of Pandit Ravi Shankar, was the son of dancers Uday Shankar (brother of Pandit Ravishankar) and Amala Shankar. He was known to merge Western and Eastern styles of music.

N S Vinodh. After completing an early education in Bangalore, N. S. Vinodh obtained his B. Tech. in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras in 1986. Being the secretary of the Photography Club at IIT Madras during his third year, he was an avid photography enthusiast. He then went on to complete his MBA from IIM, Lucknow, and later spent his career holding senior positions in the field of corporate real estate with leading multinational financial services companies. He continued to pursue his hobby of photography, integrating it with his love of travel and wildlife.
