A large audience can be seen observing an ongoing event during Mardi Gras, in 1983, at the Central Lecture Theatre. Prof. N. V. C. Swamy (Department of Applied Mechanics) who was appointed as the Director of IIT Madras from 1990 to 1995 can be seen seated among the audience in the front row.

During Mardi Gras ‘83, several events took place at the Central Lecture Theatre ranging from the Informal events, music quiz to ‘Just a Minute’ and ‘Dramatics.’ Apart from this, there was also a competition for the overall Mardi Gras Championship. As each event carried a certain number of points within its own category, winning the ‘Overall Mardi Gras Championship’ involved final weighted positions in all categories being added to arrive at an overall position.

N S Vinodh. After completing an early education in Bangalore, N. S. Vinodh obtained his B. Tech. in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras in 1986. Being the secretary of the Photography Club at IIT Madras during his third year, he was an avid photography enthusiast. He then went on to complete his MBA from IIM, Lucknow, and later spent his career holding senior positions in the field of Corporate Real Estate with leading multinational financial services companies. He continued to pursue his hobby of photography, integrating it with his love of travel and wildlife.
