The chief guest and speaker at IIT Madras’s sixth convocation, which was held on the 2nd of August, 1969, was Dr. Suri Bhagavantam, Scientific Advisor to the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. He was a well-known visionary scientist, administrator and an architect of defense research. He held many important posts in various organizations but is bestknown for the time he served as Director of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) from 1962-1969. During his tenure he contributed immensely to the Indian defence system. On the day of the event, upon reaching the campus, Dr. S. Bhagavantam was received by Prof. A.
