This photograph was taken during the official ceremony that was held to hand over the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to IIT Madras. This was one of the provisions of the Indo-German Agreement. According to a Campastimes interview with Mr. P. Seshasayi, manager of the new Computer Centre in 1988, Siemens would treat IIT Madras on par with the other German universities, providing updates.
