Seen in the image, seated on the dais from the left: A speaker who is yet to be identified, Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian (Minister of Education, Madras), Dr. Karl Pfauter (Consul General for South India) and Prof. B. Sengupto (Director, IITM).

The records show us that Mr. V. R. Nedunchezhian visited IIT Madras on three other occasions at least: for the inauguration of the Sequential Summer School in Mechanical Engineering (May 1967), launch of the Journal of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (24th November 1967) and the eleventh convocation ceremony (9th September 1974).
