The Computer Sciences Block, also referred to as the Computer Centre Block in the Annual Reports of IIT Madras, 1986 and 1987, was a newly constructed building which was built to house the Siemens 7580-E Computer System. It was constructed at a cost of 90 lakh rupees.
It was built to house the new Siemens 7580-E Computer System which was gifted to IIT Madras by the Federal Republic of Germany. Prior to this, the older IBM 370 Computer System was installed at the Building Sciences Block.
