This photograph was taken during the official event to commemorate the handing of the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to IIT Madras. The computer system was given to IIT Madras as part of the Indo-German Agreement. It made a provision for the Siemens system to be given to the Institute. According to a Campastimes interview with Mr. P. Seshasayi, the then manager of the new Computer Centre, the Institute did not have a choice in deciding the company or model of the system. It was already dictated in the agreement.
In this photograph, the distinguished guests and the Chairman, Board of Governors are taking a look at brochures. It is likely that these brochures were prepared for the event.
