In the photograph, students can be seen participating in an event, possibly an informal music event during Mardi Gras (1983). The event probably took place in an area in between the Humanities and Sciences Block (HSB) and the Open Air Theatre (OAT).

A variety of competitions took place which were associated with music. Then there were the main quiz, music quiz, fine arts, photography, on the spot, creative writing, debate, and Informals. Apart from this, there was also a competition for the overall ‘Mardi Gras Championship’. As each event carried a certain number of points within its own category, winning the ‘Overall Mardi Gras Championship’ involved final weighted positions in all categories being added to arrive at an overall position.

N S Vinodh. After completing an early education in Bangalore, N. S. Vinodh obtained his B. Tech. in Civil Engineering from IIT Madras in 1986. Being the secretary of the Photography Club at IIT Madras during his third year, he was an avid photography enthusiast. He then went on to complete his MBA from IIM, Lucknow, and later spent his career holding senior positions in the field of corporate real estate with leading multinational financial services companies. He continued to pursue his hobby of photography, integrating it with his love of travel and wildlife.
