Natarajan served as the first principal of the Central School at IIT Madras, from 1964 to 1968. The Central School at IIT Madras started operating with classes VI to IX on July 20, 1964. This Central School is part of a network of 1251 schools established by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, both in India and abroad. The name ‘Central School’ was later changed to Kendriya Vidyalaya.…

On the occasion of its inauguration, the Central School's entrance, lined with potted plants, was carpeted and decked with colourful bunting. The picture shows people gathered outside the school's entrance, either before or after the inauguration ceremony. This entrance, however, is no longer the main entrance to the school.
