The image describes a concrete bed lathe used by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Madras. The lathe described has a prestressed reinforced concrete bed and plain reinforced concrete pedestals. The lathe’s gear box uses an extended Ruppert type gear drive that provides nine speeds from 160 to 1000 rpm. The swing over bed is 250 mm and the centre to centre distance is 800 mm. By means of a rack, a manual feed is possible.

According to a report in The Fourth Estate, there were several events involving Western music including Western Music solo and Western Music group, and also Light Music solo and Light Music group. The events were called Acoustix and Powerchord. The report notes that the events were dominated by bands from Chennai, and makes a special mention of a band from IIT Madras which participated in Powerchord. Participants from colleges across the city and country took part in these competitions. There were also several music shows, ranging from fusion to popular music to metal. The report points out that two teams shared second place, while the Award for Best Technical Excellence went to a play which was mimed.
