When the Federal Republic of Germany gifted the Siemens 7580-E Computer System to IIT Madras, there were 80 terminals which were also sent. According to a Campastimes interview from February 1988, Mr. P. Seshasayi (Head of Computer Centre) says that they had planned to keep around 30-35 terminals at the Computer Centre, while the rest would be in the campus. Initially, all the terminals were kept at the Centre to judge the response times.
