Pritam Lal Kapur is known for having started the Film Club in 1961. He served as the Secretary of the club and has also written an article titled ‘Film Club’ describing the nature of the club. He writes, “1961 will remain a significant year in the History of our Institute, since it marks the birth of the Film Club.” The Film Club is still active (As of March 2020). The club has its office behind the large screen in the Open Air Theatre on the first floor. The first location of the club’s office is yet to be determined.
The Director’s Trophy was won by YMCA College of Physical Education, Chennai. This was the first Inter-Collegiate Sports Meet held by IIT Madras. Paul notes that there were relatively few entries from the city colleges but the event was a success. He also writes the prizes were distributed by Mrs. Fischer, wife of chief guest Mr. Gerhard Fischer (Consul, Federal Republic of Germany). It is not clear to us why the boy was receiving a prize. It is likely that the young boy (in shorts) is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fischer.
