This photograph was taken during the 50th Institute Day of IIT Madras on 17 April 2009. IIT Madras presents its highest award to alumni, known as the Distinguished Alumnus Award (DAA), during Institute Days. The photograph shows a section of the audience members that day. The chief guest for the ceremony was Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and at the time, the Whole-time Director & President (Construction), L&T Ltd. Several faculty members and administrators were present in the audience.
This photograph was taken during the 50th Institute Day. As seen in the photograph, the Gajendra Circle had been decorated with lights for the Institute Day. The Gajendra Circle is one of IIT Madras’ most iconic and easily recognisable landmarks. It is often decorated during institute events. The 50th Institute Day was celebrated on 17 April 2009 with Prof. M. S. Ananth, the Director of IIT Madras (2001-2011) presiding over the ceremony. Mr. K. V. Rangaswami, an alumnus of IIT Madras, and the then Whole-time Director & President (Construction) of L&T Ltd was the chief guest.
